Locked out? It’s a case for Coya Home Contents Insurance!

The classic scenario: You're standing outside your front door - but the key to the flat is teasing you from inside. What now?

Gritting your teeth and calling an expensive locksmith was yesterday. Today, you just pull out your smartphone and call your household insurance company. Because at Coya, the locksmith service is included in your household insurance without extra charge, thanks to the house and apartment protection certificate.

A certificate? With a digital and paperless insurance company? Granted, the term "protection certificate" sounds more like a dubious postal mailing than a service that helps you in an emergency. So what's the point?

The house and apartment protection certificate is not a physical certificate that lands in your mailbox. It’s the name for various additional services included in your household insurance that you can take advantage of in emergency situations. With many insurance companies, you have to conclude the protection certificate separately; with Coya, it’s automatically included in your household insurance policy.

And it’s incredibly useful: while household insurance can generally be claimed against for damage caused by fire, lightning, domestic water supply, storms, hail and in case of burglary and robbery, the protection certificate also covers various emergencies that you would not typically associate with household insurance.

Just pull out your smartphone and call the Coya emergency hotline - you don't need to worry about anything else.

Locksmith, plumber, etc. - all included in your household insurance

It's the weekend and there's a burst water pipe in the bathroom? A cold winter evening and the heating fails? Locked out with no chance of getting into the apartment? In all of these situations, the benefits of the house and apartment protection certificate come into effect.

As a Coya household insurance customer you can simply pull out your mobile phone, call the Coya emergency hotline and we will organise the necessary plumber, craftsman or locksmith for you. We will also cover any costs up to €500 - you don't have to do anything else.

"I was honestly surprised at how uncomplicated it all was", says Henry who, as a Coya household insurance customer, had to use an emergency locksmith service, "I must admit that I was inwardly prepared for this to be one of those typical situations where you end up even more stressed than before". The 28-year-old Berliner broke his key in his lock one evening. "I called Coya and within an hour the locksmith was there - he fixed everything without having to change the lock in the end. There was no paperwork, no renegotiating the price or any other stress. I was really pleasantly surprised. And the amount I would have paid for the locksmith is less than what I pay for three years of household insurance.”

Report directly - do not act on your own authority

In order for your household insurance to cover this and other emergencies, it’s important that you contact Coya directly and not after the incident or accident has already been taken care of. If you organise a plumber or locksmith service yourself, Coya cannot help you. This is because we work with partner companies in these emergency situations. A locksmith or craftsman who is not affiliated with Coya cannot be covered by the insurance.
